Playing on a console controller alters how players handle target lock-ons, ability activation, and mount summoning compared to the standard keyboard layout found in the general controls overview.

Default Xbox Gamepad Layout

The console release assigns every primary action to standard gamepad inputs without requiring an on-screen cursor for basic combat.

Combat Mechanics and Skill Cycling

Unlike keyboard gameplay where slots 1 through 10 are tied directly to individual number keys, console users manage abilities through an active selection cursor. Slotted combat moves are cycled consecutively using Left and Right on the directional pad. Once the intended icon is highlighted on the interface, pressing Y activates the attack.

Melee exchanges rely heavily on timing the defensive inputs:

  • Holding Left Bumper absorbs incoming damage, but activating the guard right before a hit connects causes a perfect block that staggers the attacker with slight knockback.
  • Pressing B executes a rapid evasion step. Every dodge deducts from the blue stamina wheel, making stamina management vital during extended PvP encounters.
  • Clicking the Right Joystick locks the targeting reticle onto the nearest opponent. The lock persists until that enemy is knocked out or the stick is clicked again to release focus.

Transformations function through X. A single tap triggers the equipped form animation, while holding X powers the character down to base form. Maintaining an active transformation steadily drains Ki, requiring players to disengage and hold D-Pad Up to recharge the Ki reserve.

Map Movement and Traversal Choices

Crossing Earth and event islands demands different movement approaches depending on combat state and unlocked perks.

Traversal MethodRecommended SituationRequirements and Trade-offs
Standard FlightMid-combat repositioning and boss dodgingDouble-tap A; maintains combat responsiveness without extra speed boosts
Fast FlyingMoving across large open landscapes quicklyHold Left Trigger while flying; restricts immediate melee strike execution
Flying Nimbus MountLong-distance island-to-island transitPress D-Pad Down; requires the Flying Nimbus gamepass, scales speed with form

The Flying Nimbus does not consume stamina while traveling across zones. Its travel velocity increases automatically when activating higher transformation tiers, including forms leveled through dedicated form mastery.
