Core Mechanics and Visual Recolor Features

Special edition souls function on the same movesets and meter mechanics as their standard counterparts, but they incorporate cosmetic alterations and stat improvements. When inspected in the inventory, a special edition soul displays a distinct sparkle overlay across its icon. Consuming the soul plays a custom transformation sequence separate from the standard version.

The primary mechanical difference is a flat 5% stat boost added to the soul's attributes. Aside from that numerical modifier, special edition souls charge at identical rates to baseline variants, gaining 0.4% meter per charge tick.

Special edition souls also grant access to an aura recolor setting in the item interface. Enabling this feature recolors the character aura and energy attacks based on whichever secondary aura cosmetic is equipped, such as Gogeta Blue, Demon 21 red, or Goku Black pink. Certain beam attacks interact uniquely with this system; for example, Heaven's Wrath uses an underlying blue particle base, causing it to display inverted or blended tones like lime green or purple rather than pure primary hues.

Special Edition Zenkai Souls in Combat

Multiple Zenkai souls feature special edition variants that alter high-tier combat builds. Players compare these variants across the broader soul tier list to match specific fighting content.

The Beast Soul Special Edition carries the standard Beast moveset, including Primal Instinct, Beast Soul Crash, Special Beam Cannon, and Bestial Roar. Bestial Roar functions as a wide area attack that delivers rapid multi-hit damage, fitting players running a dedicated ki build. The soul drains its gauge rapidly in combat, requiring careful timing during multi-phase boss encounters in raids.

The Savior soul Special Edition uses the remastered Savior kit containing Feral Cannon, Buddha Fist, Heaven's Wrath, and Wanudo. Feral Cannon operates as a ranged blast, while Wanudo leaves a lingering damage zone upon impact. Buddha Fist retains a linear rush path that can circle around targets if tracking loses alignment, and the kit no longer inflicts the passive burn damage found on pre-rework builds.

The God of Destruction Special Edition provides melee and ranged burst options through God Termination, Path to Ruin, and Sphere of Destruction. While its attacks hit for high burst values against raid targets, the soul has the longest meter charge requirement in the Zenkai tier.

Acquisition Methods and Official Pull Rates

Players obtain special edition souls through three standard acquisition routes:

  • Drawing random souls from the soul giver NPC located at Port Prospera.
  • Opening Shattered Orbs collected from gameplay activities.
  • Gathering all seven Dragon Balls to summon Shenron and selecting the soul wish.

In the official developer Q&A video for the Ultra SSJ3 update, the developers stated that the designated drop rate for any special edition soul is 1%. This establishes a baseline of approximately one special edition version for every one hundred soul pulls completed.

Dende Mentor and Corrupted Wish Rerolls

The Dende mentor located at the Lookout introduces corrupt wishes, which offer an alternative path to modify special edition souls. Mentorship progression requires interacting with Dragon Balls across the map, with Dende available to assign quests up to twice per day.

Summoning Shenron awards one corrupt energy point per standard wish made. Once players unlock the second tier of Dende mentorship, they gain access to the corrupt wish menu, where accumulated corrupt energy buys specialized options:

  • SE Soul Reroll Wish: Listed as "I wish to reroll my SE Dragon Soul," this wish costs 300 corrupt energy. It requires an equipped, non-permanent special edition soul and rerolls that item into another special edition soul. The result pool includes the possibility of rolling the exact same soul variant.
  • Zenkai Permastone Wish: Listed as "I wish to exchange Savior for a Zenkai permastone," this option costs 200 corrupt energy. Turning in two standard, non-permanent Savior souls awards a single Zenkai permastone used to make Zenkai tier souls permanent.
